WHO’S NEXT AFTER MR. AJAY TYAGI (SEBI’s Chairman)?

Well, we all know about Mr Ajay Tyagi, chairman of SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India), who has taken charge for the position 3 years earlier on 1st March 2017 from his predecessor Mr U K Sinha for 3 years the tenure of which is going to end on 29th of Feb 2020.

So, now the question arises after Mr Ajay Tyagi, who will be the next chairman?

Well, there are 4 contenders in the list :

1. Mr Atanu Chakraborty

Mr Atanu Chakraborty is an IAS Office of 1985 batch from Gujarat cadre, who is having experience in the areas of Governance, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Finance, Industry and Infrastructure as well as in regulatory works. Earlier, he has worked as a Secretary of Department of Economic Affairs, Secretary of DIPAM (Department of Investment and Public Asset Management), and is said to be the first choice for the coveted position.

2. Mrs.Madhabi Puri Buch

The next contender for the position is Mrs Madhabi Puri Buch, who is a management graduate from IIM (Indian Institute of Management)Ahmedabad and she is known for the first female person from the private sector who has been selected in the regulator market for the key post. She is now serving as new whole-time member of SEBI since 21 March 2017 for the tenure of 3 years.

3. Mr.Injeti Srinivas

Mr.Injeti Shrinivas is an IAS Officer and graduates in economics with an MBA who is currently serving as a Secretary of Corporate Affairs. He is also leading the government’s Bankruptcy Reforms.

4. None other than Mr Ajay Tyagi himself

There is a hope that Mr.Ajay Tyagi will be reappointed if the government will accept his extension period.

Now as we have known the final contenders for the post, the final decision will be taken by PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah as on 1st of March 2020.
